Here are important information and updates for the week of August 31st through September 4th and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.
Leader in Me Family Night
We are excited to invite you to our Leader in Me Family Night on September 15th from 4:30pm - 6:00pm in the Gym.
This will be a fun evening for the whole family. As you make your way through the gym, you'll have the chance to visit different stations that focus on each of the 8 Habits. Every station will include a simple activity that families can complete together while learning more about the habits your child is practicing at school.
We'll also have snacks available and each family will leave with a craft that you can complete together and take home.
Because this is a floating event, you are welcome to arrive at any time during the evening and participate at your own pace.
We hope you'll make plans to join us. It will be a great opportunity to spend time together while learning more about the Leader in Me program and how these habits can be used at home as well as at school.

Join the Burgaw Lions Club at the 2026 Pender Unity Resource Expo, starting at 9:00 AM at the Pender County Agricultural Building Parking Lot.
No insurance needed, quick results, and open to all ages! We’re proud to partner with Dr. Eaton (Burgaw Eye Center) and Wilmington Eye this year and look forward to a fantastic turnout.

UNCW Education Lab Openings
The UNCW Watson College of Education Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory still has a few remaining spots available for K-5 families interested in 1:1 enrichment/tutoring- both online and face to face! CFCC Dual Enrollment Info Nights
The CFCC Dual Enrollment Information Nights are right around the corner!
The information nights will provide families with information about the College Accelerated Program (CAP), Pender Early College High School (PECHS), and Career and College Promise Program (CCP). Below are the locations and dates as stated on the flyer:
Topsail High School: September 1, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
Heide Trask High School: September 3, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
Pender High School: September 9, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
Fall Sports Picture Days – September 15 & 16
Strawbridge Studios will be at Penderlea on Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16 to take fall sports pictures. Families of participating student-athletes should review the Strawbridge information provided below for picture-day and ordering details.
Additional information about schedules and picture-day expectations will be shared by coaches and Penderlea Athletics as we get closer to the dates.
Diabetes Awareness Information for Families
Pender County Schools is sharing important information with families about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, including common risk factors, warning signs, screening, treatment, and support available at school.
Families are encouraged to review the attached infographic and become familiar with possible warning signs. If your child displays symptoms associated with diabetes, please consult your child’s primary care provider to determine whether screening is appropriate.
If you have questions about supporting a student with diabetes at school, please contact Nurse Brown or our school health staff.
This Week in Hornet Athletics:
Games begin this week for our Pender Patriot athletes! All home softball games will be played at Pender Memorial Park in Burgaw and all home football games will be played here at Penderlea School. Start time for both sports is 4:30pm. We hope to see everyone in the stands cheering on our Patriots!
