Weekly Update

Good evening Penderlea Families,

Here are important information and updates for the week of August 3rd through August 7th and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.

Introducing the 2026–2027 Student & Family Handbook

We're excited to share the 2026–2027 Penderlea Student & Family Handbook! This handbook is a valuable resource designed to help families stay informed about school procedures, expectations, important dates, attendance, transportation, Leader in Me, student services, and much more.

We encourage every family to take a few minutes to review the handbook and refer back to it throughout the school year.

3rd Grade BOG Testing Information:

Our 3rd-grade students will be taking the state Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG) Reading Assessment this Wednesday, August 5th. This assessment establishes an initial baseline for your child’s reading and comprehension skills this year and helps meet North Carolina’s Read to Achieve standards. You can help your child do their best by ensuring they get a good night’s rest on Tuesday, eat a healthy breakfast Wednesday morning, and arrive at school on time (with a fully charged device). Thank you for your support in helping our 3rd graders start the year strong!

Help Buzz Up Our School Store!

Our school store is a favorite among our students, and you can help keep it stocked! We are accepting donations of items such as stickers, fidgets, keychains, candy, bracelets, school supplies, wrapped snacks, and other small prizes.

Please see the below flyer for a list of requested donation items, and our Amazon Wishlist. Thank you for supporting our students and helping make our school store a success!

Fall Picture Day – August 26

Mark your calendars! Fall Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Strawbridge Studios will be on campus to photograph all students. Be on the lookout for ordering information and reminders from the school. We encourage families to review the picture day flyer for ordering details, and information about when to expect your child's picture package.

Athletic Parent Meeting

Parents and guardians of students participating in athletics this school year are invited to attend our Beginning of the Year Athletic Parent Meeting on Thursday, August 6, at 6:00 PM.

During this meeting, families will meet our coaching staff, receive important information about the upcoming athletic seasons, and learn about expectations and procedures for student-athletes. This meeting is an important opportunity to ensure everyone is prepared for a successful year of Hornet Athletics.

We look forward to seeing all of our athletes and their families on Thursday, August 6, at 6:00 PM. Go Hornets!

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out via email at pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us or call the school at 910-285-2761.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Together, we will continue to make Penderlea the Place to Be!
