Weekly Update

Good evening Penderlea Families,

Here are some important information and updates for the week of May 31th through June 5th and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.

Last Day of School Reminder

Tomorrow, June 1st, is the last day of school for students! We want to thank our students, families, and staff for an incredible school year filled with growth, achievement, and memorable experiences.

Please remember that tomorrow is a half day for students, and dismissal will begin at 11:45 AM. We ask families to plan accordingly for transportation and afternoon arrangements.

As we close out another successful school year, thank you for your continued partnership and support. We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer break. Thank you for helping make Penderlea the Place to Be!

Leader in Me MRA Family Survey – We Need Your Help!

Thank you to the 31 families who have already completed the Leader in Me MRA (Measurable Results Assessment) Family Survey. We greatly appreciate your feedback and support.

Our goal is to have 100 families complete the survey, but we currently have only 31 responses. The survey will close tomorrow, June 1st, so there is still time for your voice to be heard.

The MRA is an important tool that helps us measure school culture, leadership development, student experiences, and overall progress as we continue preparing for our transition to becoming a Leader in Me School in 2026-2027. Your feedback will help shape future decisions and improvements at Penderlea.

If you have not yet completed the survey, please take a few minutes to do so using the link below:

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue building leadership opportunities for our students and making Penderlea the Place to Be.

5th Grade "Walk Across the Hall" Promotion Ceremony

A reminder to our 5th grade families that tomorrow morning is Penderlea's very first "Walk Across the Hall" Promotion Ceremony! This special event recognizes our 5th grade students as they complete their elementary school journey and take the next step into middle school.

The ceremony will begin at 8:00 AM in the Atrium. Families are welcome to join us as we celebrate this exciting milestone.

Please note that this is intended to be a very informal ceremony. Students will be recognized, receive their awards, and then symbolically "walk across the hall" to represent their transition into middle school.

Following the ceremony, families will have the opportunity to meet our middle school teachers and begin making connections for next school year.

We look forward to sharing this special first-time event with our students and families!

Important Health Reminders from the School Nurse

As we wrap up the school year, please make note of the following important health reminders:

Student Medications: Any medications currently stored in the school clinic should be picked up by a parent or guardian as soon as possible. Medications not picked up by the end of the workday on June 4th will be disposed of according to district procedures.

Rising 7th Grade Vaccinations: Students entering 7th grade are required to have updated immunizations. Families of students who are missing required vaccines have received notification letters. The Pender County Health Department offers a walk-in vaccination clinic Monday through Friday, making summer a great time to get these requirements completed.

Sports Physicals: Families of student-athletes are encouraged to complete sports physicals over the summer. Completing physicals before the start of the school year helps prevent delays in participation for workouts and tryouts and will be valid for the entire 2026–2027 school year. Physical forms are available through the school nurse, and local urgent care facilities often provide low-cost physicals.

Big News for Penderlea!

We are excited to share that Penderlea School will officially become a Leader in Me School beginning in the 2026–2027 school year!

Leader in Me is a schoolwide framework designed to help students develop leadership skills, responsibility, confidence, goal-setting abilities, and strong character traits that support success both in school and in life.

What does this mean for our students and families?

  • A positive and collaborative school culture

  • Skills that prepare students for future success

This is an exciting step forward as we continue building Penderlea the Place to Be and creating opportunities for every student to discover their leadership potential.

Athletic Announcements

Parents of rising 6th-8th graders: Please use this summer to go ahead and get your child’s sports physical.  Any student wanting to attend workouts or tryouts for any sport must have one completed by a doctor. This summer is a great opportunity to get that done, and it will be good for the entire school year!

Thank you for an amazing athletic year at Penderlea School, and we look forward to what’s to come in the 2026-2027 school year!

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out via email at pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us or call the school at 910-285-2761.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Together, we will continue to make Penderlea the Place to Be!
