Good evening Penderlea Families,
Here are some important information and updates for the week of May 25th through May 29th and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.
Big News for Penderlea!
We are excited to share that Penderlea School will officially become a Leader in Me School beginning in the 2026–2027 school year!
Leader in Me is a schoolwide framework designed to help students develop leadership skills, responsibility, confidence, goal-setting abilities, and strong character traits that support success both in school and in life.
What does this mean for our students and families?
Leadership opportunities for every student
A focus on goal setting and academic success
A positive and collaborative school culture
Skills that prepare students for future success
Strong partnerships between school and families
This is an exciting step forward as we continue building Penderlea the Place to Be and creating opportunities for every student to discover their leadership potential.
We look forward to partnering with our families as we begin this journey together and continue building leaders for life!
Please see the flyer below to learn more about Leader in Me and what this exciting transition means for Penderlea!
EOG Retest Opportunity Reminder
Students who scored Not Proficient now have a second chance to retest and show what they know after receiving additional remediation and academic support. Families may either return the paper permission form sent home last week or complete the Google Form linked below. Please note that parent/guardian permission is required for students to participate in retesting.
Leader in Me MRA Survey
As part of our continued implementation of Leader in Me, Penderlea will participate in the MRA (Measurable Results Assessment). The MRA is a comprehensive survey and assessment tool that gathers feedback from families, students, and staff to help us better understand our school culture, leadership growth, and overall progress.
The family survey is now open, and we encourage families to complete the survey using the link below.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we continue building leadership opportunities for our students through Leader in Me.
Testing Continues This Week
As we move into another week, we want to remind families that testing is still taking place at Penderlea. This week will include EOG make-up testing, EOG retesting opportunities for eligible students, and our final state assessment, the 5th and 8th Grade Science EOG, which will take place on Wednesday, May 27th.
Please help support our students by ensuring they arrive on time, get a good night’s rest, and come ready to do their best. We are proud of the hard work our students and staff have put in and look forward to finishing strong as we wrap up testing season.
8th Grade Promotion Ticket Information
8th Grade Promotion tickets will be available for pickup beginning Monday, May 18th. Tickets must be picked up by a parent or guardian and will need to be signed for in the front office at the time of pickup.
We are excited to celebrate our 8th grade students as they prepare for this special milestone!

Athletic Announcements
Parents of rising 6th-8th graders: Please use this summer to go ahead and get your child’s sports physical. Any student wanting to attend workouts or tryouts for any sport must have one completed by a doctor. This summer is a great opportunity to get that done, and it will be good for the entire school year!
Thank you for an amazing athletic year at Penderlea School, and we look forward to what’s to come in the 2026-2027 school year!
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out via email at pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us or call the school at 910-285-2761.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Together, we will continue to make Penderlea the Place to Be!
