First grade students worked in pairs to complete an Evidence Organizer after reading Brave Irene. Each duo discussed the text, identified a sentence that showed an important idea or feeling, and recorded evidence and reasoning on their organizer.

After completing the organizers, partners selected one sentence they had written about and acted it out for the class. The brief performances helped students deepen comprehension, practice speaking and listening skills, and connect text evidence to character actions and emotions.

Teachers noted strong collaboration, careful use of text details, and enthusiastic dramatizations — a great combination of literacy, teamwork, and expressive learning.
