Good evening Penderlea Families,
Here are some important information and updates for the week of January 5th through January 9th and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.
Welcome Back, Hornet Families
We hope all of our Penderlea families enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and a restful winter break. We are excited to welcome students back as we begin the second half of the school year together.
Penderlea’s first day back is Monday, January 5th.
School begins at 7:45 AM, with students able to enter the building starting at 7:25 AM. Dismissal is at 2:50 PM.
Message from Administration
As of January 3rd, there is still no sign of Baby Harris arriving. Until the baby is born, my presence at school will be day to day. I do plan to be at school on Monday, but we will continue to take things as they come.
I also want to share that Dr. Goodlett will need to be out for a couple of weeks in January due to a medical procedure. During this time, we have worked closely with the district to ensure coverage, and district-level staff will be supporting the building as needed.
I have the utmost confidence in our Penderlea staff, who continue to do an incredible job supporting our students and maintaining strong routines each day. Our school is in great hands.
If families have any questions or concerns over the next couple of weeks, please email pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us and someone will be in touch to assist you.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support as we navigate this transition together.
Report Cards – January 9
A reminder to families that report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 9th.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s grades, we encourage you to reach out directly to your child’s teacher to discuss academic progress and next steps.
Thank You for Making Holidays Around the World a Huge Success
Thank you to our Penderlea families for coming out and making Holidays Around the World one of our most well-attended events of the year. Your presence, participation, and support helped make the evening truly special.
Seeing our students confidently lead, share their learning, and celebrate cultures from around the world alongside their families was a powerful reminder of what makes Penderlea such a strong community. We are grateful for your continued partnership and for helping create meaningful experiences for our Hornets.
Thank you for being such an important part of what makes Penderlea the place to be!
Girls Basketball & Boys Soccer Workouts and Tryouts
Families of students interested in girls basketball or boys soccer are reminded that workouts will take place on Monday, January 5th, followed by tryouts on January 6th and 7th.
To participate in workouts or tryouts, students must have attended at least one sports parent meeting with Mr. Umphress and have all required paperwork completed prior to participation.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Umphress at ashley_umphress@pender.k12.nc.us
January Cafeteria Menu
The January cafeteria menu is attached to this email for families to review. Please take a moment to look it over with your child to help plan for the month ahead.
