Sixth-grade students have been busy combining science and reading in engaging and hands-on ways. In their science unit, students explored the building blocks of matter by constructing models of atoms using colorful gumdrops. Through this fun and interactive activity, they practiced identifying the different parts of an atom and counting the atomic mass. The highlight? After demonstrating their knowledge, students got to enjoy the sweet rewards—eating the gumdrops!
In reading, the class is currently studying the short story “The Medicine Bag.” Students have been highlighting key pieces of dialogue and discussing how these lines contribute to the protagonist’s character development. These thoughtful conversations are helping students better understand the themes of identity and tradition, as well as how dialogue shapes a character's growth throughout a story.
It’s been a dynamic week of learning, filled with both discovery and reflection!
