During the second week of October, our English II students began studying The Holocaust and reading a survivor memoir: Night by Elie Wiesel. In honor of that, a few of our English teachers came together to take those students to Thalian Hall to watch the film Fanny’s Journey, as part of the Wilmington Jewish Film Festival. This film is about a 12-year-old girl Jewish girl who is taken away to a hidden house, far from her family in France, leaving her to take care of her two younger sisters. She then becomes the leader of a group of eight children who are forced to run away and avoid being arrested by Nazi soldiers. This movie reinforces what they are learning because now they have a visual of what it was like for those affected by such a tragedy. It teaches them not to take what they have for granted because they never know what can happen at any given moment.
