👩🏫TEACHER TUESDAY - Ruth Gourley, STEAM Specialist at Malpass Corner Elementary 🌟
Ms. Gourley teaches grades K-5 at Malpass Corner Elementary and has been inspiring young minds for nine years. Her passion for education stems from her love of helping children experience those “light bulb” moments when they grasp new knowledge. 💡✨
As a self-proclaimed science nerd, Ms. Gourley’s favorite subject to teach is science. She enjoys sparking curiosity and making learning exciting for her students. Her proudest accomplishment is becoming a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) specialist, a role that allows her to bring innovative, hands-on learning experiences to her classroom. 🔬🎨
When she’s not teaching, Ms. Gourley enjoys relaxing at the beach, watching movies, and listening to music. At home, she shares her life with two very spoiled house cats who bring her endless joy. 🐾
Her dream travel destination is Cozumel, Mexico—a place she hopes to explore one day. 🌴✈️
Ms. Gourley’s teaching philosophy, *“Student-centered and hands-on,”* reflects her commitment to engaging her students in meaningful and interactive learning experiences. She strives to create an environment where students are at the heart of every lesson. 💡👏

Last week was a super short week but was FULL of HEART! The Eagles Nest cannot function without our parents. And when parents volunteer, we are even stronger! Calling all 4th & 5th graders!! Remember, you need to be at school tomorrow! Tomorrow is the day we have been looking forward to! Our Eagles of the Week before we go home for Thanksgiving are recognized for having ownership on the bus or as a car rider. This may look like watching for their bus stop, quietly waiting for their name to be called at car riders & walking with a calm body, taking ownership of actions, cleaning up their trash, etc. Way to SOAR!

Last week, MCE 4th graders took a field trip to the Ingram Planetarium! Students enjoyed hands-on science activities in the Science Hall, a moon phase show in the Sky Theater, and a park lunch! It's time to post our Eagles of the Week.... drum rolllllllll ..... these students were recognized for Ownership on the Playground which could look like keeping hands and fee to themselves, reporting problems to adults, staying visible at all times, staying in the correct play areas, taking ownership of actions... being SAFE! Way to Go Eagles!
Weekly Attendance Update!
It's that time again to announce the Eagles of the Week! This week our Eagles were observed demonstrating Ownership in the Restrooms. This might've looked like keeping the bathroom clean, by disposing of paper towels in the trash cans, not playing around, not flinging soap or water onto the floor, etc.
We have some grade levels up this week! Let's keep SOARing for 95% Learning is better when we are together!
Looking ahead-November 18-22! Let's join in the fun and celebrate CTE education!
Color a leaf?? Mrs. Meyer coordinated all students in the Eagles Nest last week to write one thing they are thankful for and then color the leaf. Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Havens had the incredible task of cutting out the leaves so that overnight ... (during the day yesterday) the tree could go up on the wall. (Thank you Mrs. Havens!) Our Eagles were AMAZED to see the tree on the wall and are enjoying reading all the leaves. The staff will also be putting together a tree as well. We hope you join us November 25th and 26th at your Eagle's Thanksgiving Lunch to see in person how beautiful, amazing and special this tree really is! (Great background for photos!)

Who was recognized this week for SOARING behavior? See below! :) (This week students were recognized for Ownership in the Cafeteria which might look like getting all their items the first time, leaving the table/floor clean, waiting in line with a calm and quiet body, etc. Feel free to ask your homeroom teachers for more specifics.) We SOAR high in the Eagles Nest!
"Learning is better when we are together." In order for our students to learn, grow and meet our goals, we need them here everyday! Please help us with our goal of 95% responsible attendance rate. Education is a team effort and we can't do it without your support! We will be posting our attendance updates weekly for you to review. Let's make all of the percentages green!
