Congratulations to Ms. Van Slyke for being recognized as the Cape Fear Middle BT1 Teacher of Promise/School-level BT of the Year! You are so deserving of this award. You started later in the school year as an EC Teacher, but you JUMPED RIGHT IN! You bring such a warm and positive energy to the school, are doing push-in support, pull-out learning labs, you have worked diligently to build relationships with students and teammates, working hard to navigate EC paperwork, and you are willing to ask for help when needed and apply suggested tips/strategies. You are a true shining light!

8th graders in ELA are learning about contact sports, and if they are worth the risk to play or not. Today, students got to take their knowledge from an article about concussions and CTE and interview a former Brevard College QB about his experience with concussions and the potential that he could have CTE. Also Coach Hammock, our reading tutor, has added integral knowledge in this unit from his over 30 years of coaching experience. Go Grizzlies!
