As we celebrate School Library Month check out this message from author Dav Pilkey about the power of school libraries and how kids getting the CHOICE of reading what they want is empowering. This a great message for this month and every month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sqppIDeQPk

Take a look at our April-Staff Member of the Month at CFES! Nurse Shelley and Ms. Bass! We had a tie on the winners and it is perfect that these two ladies were chosen. Nurse Shelley and Ms. Bass are a huge impact on our school and community. They are constantly going above and beyond for our students, and this is just a small gesture of appreciation. THANK YOU both! Not to forget our March-Staff Member of the Month... It was Ms. Younginer! Thank you for all you do!

Sing. Play. CREATE! Performance skills carry over from a student’s fine arts education to other facets of their life. Students learn how to be confident in front of a crowd. They practice how to handle themselves on stage and continue their performance even when things don’t go as planned. These skills provide our students with confidence for other moments in their academic and social lives. 1st Graders in music had the opportunity to create their own rhythmic composition and perform them in front of class on an instrument of their choice! The focus was spring time and all of the changes that happen throughout the season. Their compositions were completed all alone with little guidance. These students really out did themselves. Maybe in a few years we will listen to their music on Spotify or Pandora!

Mental Health Matters!! That's why in the music room at the beginning of class we do a mindfulness activity. Mindfulness meditation, at its simplest, is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment. Students come up in front of class and play the Tibetan singing bowl. Everyone participates in a breathing exercise to make ourselves aware of our surroundings before instruction begins. Not only does the fine arts give an avenue for self expression, but also a place where students social and emotional learning is key. Take a look at this kindergarten student eager and excited to play the singing bowl!

Performing Arts and Visual Arts are so important for everyone. There is a heap of incontestable research showing that an education rich in music and art improves students' cognitive function and academic performance. Take a look at this 1st Grader who is excited to play this tenor xylophone!
