💙🐾 Teacher Tuesday: Ms. Madison Garriss — Cape Fear Elementary School

Ms. Madison Garriss is a beginning teacher who stepped into the role of lead preschool teacher at Cape Fear Elementary this fall. She has spent time getting to know her students and families while continuing to learn and grow in her new role.

What stands out about Ms. Garriss is her willingness to ask questions and look for solutions. She regularly seeks input, researches new ideas, and finds ways to put what she learns into practice with her students. She also brings ideas back to her preschool team and is willing to learn from those around her.

One example came as Ms. Garriss introduced her students to Cape Fear Elementary’s schoolwide expectations and the opportunity to earn “paw prints.” She created visual reminders for her students, including portable versions she can take into the hallways and cafeteria. The visuals help her preschoolers understand what is expected of them throughout the school day.

Thank you, Ms. Garriss, for your willingness to learn and the time and care you are putting into building your preschool classroom at Cape Fear Elementary. 💛📚

She is always willing to lend a helping hand and works hard to keep our school running smoothly each day. As one of the first faces families see, she creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere and handles everything that comes her way with patience, professionalism, and grace. We truly appreciate all that she does for our students, staff, and families. Our school simply wouldn’t be the same without her, and we are so lucky to have her! 💙

Hello October! Which means it's a new month to earn money for our school with your Boxtops.

October is a Month of Awareness at Pender County Schools! Throughout October, we’re coming together to support, encourage, and include one another. Each week highlights an important area of awareness: 💚 Mental Health Awareness: October 5–9 💛 Special Needs Awareness: October 12–18 🧡 Bullying Prevention: October 19–23 ❤️ Red Ribbon Week: October 26–30 Together, we can create a school community where every student feels supported, encouraged, valued, and included.

Welcome to Ms. Grochan’s Clever Cat Café! For every 10 books they read, students earn a visit to the café where they can choose their own flavored water treat! Read. Sip. Repeat! 🐾

Our students had fun working together in groups of 5, using 6 cups per group and only strings and a rubber band!
This hands-on STEM activity encouraged teamwork, communication, problem-solving, creativity, and leadership while learning about balance and stability.

Third graders got to explore and hear about scuba diving equipment after learning about Jacques Cousteau in Wit & Wisdom 🌊🤿

It was a busy day in Mrs. Johnson’s class! Today we discussed our vocabulary word “kind” and ways to be a good friend. We made friendship bracelets, identified letters and their characteristics, and practiced writing them. We ended the day with math, measuring our towers and comparing them as bigger, smaller, biggest, smallest, and equal!
