7th grade Social Studies

This school year is off to an unforgettable start in Ms. Alexis Christoff’s 7th grade social studies classroom at West Pender Middle School. Students were immediately drawn into an immersive simulation called Operation: Save History, where they were challenged to think critically about the importance of learning from the past.

The lesson began with a startling announcement: “The Eraser,” a fictional villain determined to eliminate history education, had declared that history was banned effective immediately. Teachers and staff across the school played along, making the announcement feel real and setting the stage for an exciting adventure.

To resist this threat, students joined “the Resistance,” investigating case studies and designing posters to defend why history matters. They debated big questions: Why do we study the past? What happens when voices and events are erased? How does history shape our present and future?

The simulation captured students’ imaginations and sparked powerful discussions. More importantly, it laid the foundation for the year’s global history studies, reminding students that history isn’t just facts and dates—it is the story of humanity, a record of choices and consequences, and a guide to building a better future.

Ms. Christoff brought her main character energy to the classroom, ensuring that students didn’t just hear about history—they lived it. Her creativity, enthusiasm, and passion for teaching transformed the lesson into an experience her students will never forget, setting the tone for a year of curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful learning.
