West Pender Middle School recently welcomed two teaching artists as part of a Grassroots Arts Program grant awarded to Pender County Schools. Over the course of two days, Renato Abate & Anne McCombie introduced 8th grade art students to the fundamentals of pottery, offering hands-on experience with pottery wheels and guiding them through the creative process. Funded through Grassroots Arts Program, which provides arts programming support to all 100 counties in North Carolina, this initiative ensures that students and citizens across the state have meaningful access to the arts within their own communities. The experience not only enriched the students' artistic skills, but also fostered a deeper appreciation for local cultural opportunities.
