We are beyond excited to officially announce that the Topsail High School Marching Pirates have been invited to march in the 42nd Annual London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1, 2028!
This is an incredible honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students to represent Topsail High School, Pender County Schools, and the great state of North Carolina on an international stage.
The Marching Pirates were nominated and officially selected for this prestigious event — and what makes this invitation even more special is that the original nomination was made completely unbeknownst to anyone in the band program!
This extraordinary opportunity would not be possible without the support of Dr. Sasscer, Dr. Breedlove, and Dr. Taylor, whose belief in the transformative power of music education has helped make this dream a reality. We are also incredibly thankful for our Music Boosters organization and their continued financial support and dedication to our students and program.
🎥 Be sure to watch the attached video all the way to the end for the official invitation and surprise announcement! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bI9kX78FimYKnctwRpnshlY2VXTEoyDk/view?usp=sharing
We cannot wait to begin this exciting journey and look forward to sharing more details as preparations for London 2028 continue. Congratulations to our amazing students, directors, families, and supporters — the world is about to see what it means to be a Marching Pirate! 🏴☠️🎺🥁

Kora is a 12th grader at Topsail High School, recognized for her leadership.
Kora has taken on a leadership role outside of school as an assistant coach for a Surf City Recreation Center volleyball team. In that role, she works with players to build their skills and encourages them to support each other as a team. She focuses on helping each player grow and keeps a positive, steady attitude during practices and games.
Her approach has helped the team work together and build trust, which carries over into how students interact with each other.
Outside of school, Kora enjoys volleyball 🏐, spending time with friends at the beach 🌊, and taking her dog Banner 🐶 for walks at Kiwanis Park. Her favorite food is Cuban sandwiches 🥪, and her favorite color is blue 💙.
One fun fact—when Kora was 6 years old, she once tried racing cars with her brother 🚗.
💙 Thank you, Kora, for the leadership you show in your community.
