Recent air quality testing at South Topsail Elementary identified a classroom that requires additional cleaning and testing. The classroom will remain closed while that work is completed, and no students or staff will use the room during that time.
Families of the impacted students have received an email from the school.
The classroom has its own air handler and does not share air with neighboring classrooms. This allows the room to be closed off while the rest of the school operates normally.
Students and staff assigned to the classroom will temporarily use another space in the school. The classroom will undergo additional cleaning followed by another round of testing before it is put back into use.
South Topsail Elementary will begin the school year Monday, August 24, on its normal schedule.
Pender County Schools will continue to keep South Topsail families informed and will provide another update as the additional work and testing are completed.
