Bridge Building

Students from Surf City Middle School recently showcased their creativity, engineering skills, and teamwork at the annual bridge building competition sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Competing against schools from across the state, the Surf City Middle School team proudly earned fourth place, an outstanding accomplishment that highlights the talent and dedication of our students.

The bridge building competition challenges students to design and construct model bridges that demonstrate strength, efficiency, and sound engineering principles. Teams must carefully plan their designs, select materials strategically, and build structures capable of supporting significant weight while maintaining structural integrity. Through this process, students apply real-world concepts from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The Surf City Middle School team spent many hours designing, testing, and refining their bridge. Their hard work and perseverance paid off as they competed with some of the top middle school teams across North Carolina.

We extend a special thank you to CTE teacher Mrs. Smith, who served as the team’s sponsor. Her guidance, encouragement, and commitment to hands-on learning helped students explore engineering concepts while developing valuable problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Surf City Middle School is proud of the dedication and determination shown by these students. Their achievement reflects not only their hard work but also the strength of our school community and commitment to providing engaging STEM learning opportunities.

Congratulations to our Bridge Building Team for representing Surf City Middle School with excellence!
