PECHS Teacher of the Year

Today, Pender Early College High School (PECHS) proudly celebrated its Teacher of the Year, Margo Melton. Selected by her peers, Melton earned this recognition for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to student success.

Melton’s impact reaches far beyond the classroom. When PECHS did not have a Health and Physical Education teacher, she stepped up and became certified to ensure students had access to these essential courses. “Margo went above and beyond by getting certified to teach Health and PE so we could offer those classes to our students,” said Daniel Sidor, principal of PECHS.

In addition to her regular teaching responsibilities, Melton also took on a section of Biology this fall to help meet student demand. She is widely known for her engaging, hands-on labs in Earth and Environmental Science and Biology. Her creativity shines through in activities like the popular banana crime scene lab and detailed dissections in Anatomy and Physiology.

Outside the classroom, Melton serves as an advisor for both Science Olympiad and ROCAME. Under her leadership, the Pender County team has achieved an impressive three consecutive championships in ROCAME.

PECHS is fortunate to have such a passionate and dedicated educator making a difference in the lives of students every day.
