PECHS celebrates Sinead Morrow who was awarded the Goodnight Scholar to NC State. The Goodnight Scholarship is $23,000 yearly that is renewable for up to four years and is limited to students studying in the STEM disciplines or affiliated education majors. In addition to the scholarship, Goodnight Scholars have access to an assortment of developmental programming focused on their professional and personal growth. "The Goodnight Scholarship office prepares North Carolina's top STEM talent to become transformational leaders at NC State University, in North Carolina and in the world."
Students at PECHS are required to complete 150 hours of community service, 4 academic camps, and 30 hours internship. This requirement encourages students to not only set themselves apart from other students but also provides them opportunities to grow in community organizations. For Sinead, her involvement with 4-H and her academic success at PECHS helped her gain the experiences needed to set herself apart to be awarded this scholarship. During her time at PECHS, Sinead became active in the 4-H Teen Council Club. This helped Sinead gain confidence in public speaking and provided may other opportunities. Sinead became a member of the 4-H Honor Club (Highest honorary role to receive through NC 4-H). The 4-H Honor Club are members demonstrate outstanding leadership and service within their 4-H career. Sinead was elected N.C. 4-H Southeast District Council Vice President and the 4-H Sewing SPIN Club Leader where she taught a six week sewing class to teens. 4-H provided Sinead many opportunities and awards that really help shape the student she is today.
PECHS is proud of Sinead and what she has accomplished during her time at PECHS. She is a great example of how pairing with outside organizations provides opportunities to booster their academic resume. Sinead will attend NC State in the fall after earning her high school diploma and her A.S. degree at CFCC to pursue Pre-Veterinary studies at NC State.
