Last week, MCE 4th graders took a field trip to the Ingram Planetarium! Students enjoyed hands-on science activities in the Science Hall, a moon phase show in the Sky Theater, and a park lunch! Check out the student's smiles in Mrs. Hulon's class. #LearningIsBetterWhenWeAreTogether #FieldTripsAreGreatDays

CTE spirit week is this week and yesterday was wear your future college shirt day. Inevitably, one of NC's oldest college rivalries will end up representing in the same classroom! Aren't Ms. Carroll's Kinders so cute ... even if they are on the opposite sides!

It's time to post our Eagles of the Week.... drum rolllllllll ..... these students were recognized for Ownership on the Playground which could look like keeping hands and fee to themselves, reporting problems to adults, staying visible at all times, staying in the correct play areas, taking ownership of actions... being SAFE! Way to Go Eagles!

Weekly Attendance Update!

It's that time again to announce the Eagles of the Week! This week our Eagles were observed demonstrating Ownership in the Restrooms. This might've looked like keeping the bathroom clean, by disposing of paper towels in the trash cans, not playing around, not flinging soap or water onto the floor, etc.

We have some grade levels up this week! Let's keep SOARing for 95% Learning is better when we are together!

Looking ahead-November 18-22! Let's join in the fun and celebrate CTE education!

We've extended the deadline for our Strategic Plan Survey to November 22, 2024. If you haven't done so already, please complete the survey. We want to hear from you as we shape our next five years. SURVEY LINK - https://www.pender.k12.nc.us/o/pcs/article/1827572

Color a leaf?? Mrs. Meyer coordinated all students in the Eagles Nest last week to write one thing they are thankful for and then color the leaf. Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Havens had the incredible task of cutting out the leaves so that overnight ... (during the day yesterday) the tree could go up on the wall. (Thank you Mrs. Havens!) Our Eagles were AMAZED to see the tree on the wall and are enjoying reading all the leaves. The staff will also be putting together a tree as well. We hope you join us November 25th and 26th at your Eagle's Thanksgiving Lunch to see in person how beautiful, amazing and special this tree really is! (Great background for photos!)

Who was recognized this week for SOARING behavior? See below! :) (This week students were recognized for Ownership in the Cafeteria which might look like getting all their items the first time, leaving the table/floor clean, waiting in line with a calm and quiet body, etc. Feel free to ask your homeroom teachers for more specifics.) We SOAR high in the Eagles Nest!

"Learning is better when we are together." In order for our students to learn, grow and meet our goals, we need them here everyday! Please help us with our goal of 95% responsible attendance rate. Education is a team effort and we can't do it without your support! We will be posting our attendance updates weekly for you to review. Let's make all of the percentages green!

This week, Preschool across the district had their own "Spirit Week" and they were the cutest. Here is Ms. Quan's Preschool class Spirit Week pics. #LearningIsBetterWhenWeAreTogether

Who you gonna call? ... "5th grade GHOSTBUSTERS!!" Our fearless 5th graders were exploding ghosts yesterday at the Eagle's Nest! Who knew we had so many ghosts??? LOL! (Check out their fearless faces) Ok...for real... the 5th graders were participating in an experiment demonstrating the chemical change made by vinegar and baking soda when mixed in a bag. #Ghostbusting #LearingISBetterWhenWeAreTogether

October 31st is always a fun day (and week) in the Eagle's Nest! These students made a spooky snack for a yummy good time at school! #Morepicscoming #LearningIsBetterWhenWeAreTogetherHavingFun.

Drum roll please .... our Eagles of the Week were recognized for "Ownership in the hallway" which includes hands by sides (and not on walls and art work), walking quietly (because other Eagles are learning in the classrooms and we don't want to disturb them), facing forward (so we will see where we are going) and calm bodies (so that we don't fall down)! Keep SOARing Eagles!

Who GLOWS bright? Our 21st Century program at their 2nd annual GLOW afternoon! At their "Let's Glow Crazy" event, our 21st Century Eagles did affirmations of powerful uplifting words that they discussed the definitions of, learned how to spell and wrote down so they could glow for everyone to see! This event was part of the 25th annual, "Lights On Afterschool," the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities hosted by The Afterschool Alliance. This event sends a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs. Over 8000 events were held yesterday and Malpass Corner was part of the it! #LearningIsBetterWhenWeGlowTogether #lightsonafterschool

Kindergarten started their first unit with the new Smithsonian science program. They are learning about force and motion and the first lesson was "Let's Get Moving"! Students did science station to experience how to make things move and talked about the difference between push and pull. These pictures are from Ms. Carroll's class. #LearningIsFunWhenWeAreTogther

Principal Spotlight: Avery Ellington 🌟👩🏫
In celebration of National Principal Month, we are thrilled to spotlight Avery Ellington, who has been leading her school for 9 years and has an impressive 23 years of experience in education! 📚✨ A proud graduate of UNC Wilmington, Avery enjoys reading, listening to music, and traveling in her free time 🌍🎶📖.
A lover of psychological thrillers and detective series, Avery finds it hard to choose just one favorite book 📖🔍. When it comes to food, she’s equally diverse in her tastes, but if she had to pick one cuisine to eat forever, it would be Mexican 🌮. Before becoming an educator, she volunteered in a nursing home at 15 and worked at a retirement community during high school—showing her care for people of all ages ❤️.
Avery has a passion for decorating and hosting gatherings, and when she has the time, she loves to cook and entertain 🏡🍽️. Music is another love of hers, and like her book preferences, she enjoys a wide variety depending on her mood 🎵. Her go-to pizza topping? Sausage! 🍕 She also finds joy in the simple things, like reading and spending time with her close-knit family, who all live within 20 minutes of one another 👨👩👧.
One of Avery’s most memorable career moments came when a student once told her, "You are not black or white. You love every one of us and want the best for all of us." 💕 This moment encapsulates her dedication to creating an inclusive environment for all students. Her inspiration to become an educator began with her 3rd-grade teacher, and she knew from an early age that this was her calling 📚🍎.
What does Avery enjoy most about her current school? The family atmosphere and teamwork that makes every day special 🤗. Her favorite school tradition is "Read Across America Week," a celebration that brings the joy of reading to life for her students! 📚🇺🇸
We are so thankful for dedicated leaders like Avery Ellington, who inspire and uplift their school communities every day! 🌟👏
