Hispanic Heritage Displays at HTHS

Student artwork, Latin dances and themed dress-up days celebrated the heritage and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

On October 12-16, 2026, students at Heide Trask High School honored the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans with “Hispanic Heritage Celebration Week.”

During the week, our school lobby featured exhibits created by students from diverse backgrounds and content areas: Art (Ms. Buckley), World Language (Ms. Skrypek), Dance (Ms. Fisher), and Learning Language Through Art (Ms.Seri). Ms.Seri's students also collaborated with faculty from the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Theater Department to create an educational Rainforest Art Exhibit.

On Thursday morning, students from Ms. Fischer’s dance classes performed two Latin dances as students arrived at school, welcoming them with music and movement.

Needless to say, the aforementioned HTHS departments joined forces to create an exceptional artistic showcase!

However, the celebrations were not limited to artistic displays in the lobby! Throughout the week, students & staff also took part in five dress-up days. Multilingual learner students selected the themes at the beginning of the year, giving them a key role in shaping the week’s activities.

From the lobby artwork, to themed days,  to Thursday’s dance performance, our 2026 Hispanic Heritage Celebration Week brought cultural learning into everyday school life. The activities may have lasted one week, but the lessons from the shared experiences will last a lifetime.
