Ms. Freda Messick has taught at Burgaw Middle School for five years. Staff and families describe her as a steady, thoughtful teacher who creates a classroom where students feel supported and respected. She is known for clear communication, strong relationships, and a consistent focus on student growth.
Ms. Messick stands out for the way she balances high expectations with a calm and encouraging approach. She designs lessons that help students think deeply, make connections, and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Colleagues also shared that she is a positive influence in the building and often helps move important professional conversations forward.
One staff member noted that Ms. Messick not only supports students in her classroom, but also encourages fellow teachers in their own growth. She has helped open conversations around leadership and professional learning, including National Board Certification. Good Afternoon, Burgaw Middle School Families,
As we prepare for the End of Grade (EOG) assessments, we need your help. Please review the following items with your child/children. With all the hard work we have seen this year, we want our students to be set up for success.
Turn off electronic devices (cell phones, TV’s, etc.) by 8:00pm each night.
Get plenty of sleep by going to bed early.
If a student must be woken up more than twice during the EOG, they will be be removed from the testing environment and will need to take a retest.
Eat a healthy breakfast or encourage students to eat a healthy breakfast when they arrive to school.
Please make sure Chromebooks are charged every day.
Please make sure students bring their Chromebook and charger every day.
Arrive to school on time, promptly at 7:10am. If students are late, they may have to take their test on a different day.

8th graders studied the owl's food web by dissecting owl pellets in science class! Students found skulls & bones from rodents, shrews, & moles. They also found lots of fur & feathers. One group even found four skulls in one pellet! 🦉 @penderschools @bradbreedlove90 #onepender
