Burgaw Middle School Student Secures 2nd Place in Statewide Holocaust Writing Contest
Burgaw, NC — There is a major reason to celebrate at Burgaw Middle School this week! One of our very own sixth-graders, Caroline Borders, has achieved a remarkable feat by winning second place in the NC Council on the Holocaust Writing Contest for the 2025-2026 school year.
Caroline’s success is a testament to her dedication and the support of her teacher, Sophia Foster, who inspired and encouraged her throughout the submission process.
Recognition and Commemoration
The Chair of the NC Council on the Holocaust extended a heartfelt congratulations to all participating students and teachers for their hard work and profound submissions. To honor these accomplishments, a State Commemoration ceremony will be held:
Date: April 19th
Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Raleigh, NC
Keynote Speaker: Governor Josh Stein
During the ceremony, all winners will be recognized. Even if a student cannot attend in person, their name will be called to honor their achievement. For those unable to make the trip to Raleigh, the event will be recorded and shared on the Council’s YouTube channel following the ceremony.
Event Details for Families
Families and friends are invited to join the celebration, though individual registration is required. As of this week, approximately 100 seats remain available.
Prize Money: Winners attending the event can collect their prize money in the lobby afterward; otherwise, it will be mailed to their home.
Registration: Parents or teachers can register on behalf of students using the official Commemoration Link.
Congratulations again to Caroline Borders for representing Burgaw Middle School with such excellence on the state stage!
