Join us today in celebrating our amazing media coordinators who instill a love and passion for reading in our students!

April 3-7, 2023 is NAEYC's week o f the Young Child. This week is a fun-filled week celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. We are so excited to celebrate young children and their families with hands-on, collaborative activities encouraging movement and healthy lifestyles through music, food, and art.
Music Monday: When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement. Make up and record your own unique version of a song or write your own, and share it on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the #WOYC23 hashtag.

South Topsail's woodworking event last Friday had a great turn out of family members to assist their child in creating butterfly houses or bird feeders. Such great family engagement!

Rocky Point's woodworking craft was a success! We even had a chance to meet Dr. Breedlove on his Listen and Learn series with Mrs. Perkins.

Guiding Principle 7
Every child has diverse strengths rooted in their family's culture, background, language, and beliefs. Responsive and respectful environments welcome children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Effective teaching practices and learning experiences build on the unique backgrounds and prior experiences for each child.

Guiding Principle 6
Teaching must be intentional and focused on how children learn and grow. Children are active, engaged, and eager learners. Good teaching practices build on these intrinsic strengths by providing developmentally appropriate instruction and opportunities for exploration and meaningful play.

Guiding Principle 5
Areas of development are integrated, and children learn many concepts and skills at the same time. Any single skill, behavior, or ability may involve multiple areas of development. For example, as preschoolers gain new verbal skills, they can better manage their emotions and form more complex friendships.

Guiding Principle 4
Children learn best when they are emotionally and physically safe and secure. Nurturing, responsive, and consistent care helps create safe environments where children feel secure and valued. In these settings, children are able to engage fully in learning experiences.

Guiding Principle 3
Families are children's first and most important caregivers, teachers, and advocates. Families must be respected and supported as the primary influences in their child's early learning and education. Their knowledge, skills, and cultural backgrounds contribute to children's school readiness.

Guiding Principle 2
Learning occurs within the context of relationships. Caring families, teachers, and other adults matter in a young child's life. Responsive and supporting interactions with adults are essential to children's learning.
